Dennis M. D. Landis, MD, served as the Gilbert Humphrey Professor
in the Department of Neurology at University Hospitals of Cleveland
and
Case
Western
Reserve University from 1994 until stepping down in July 1, 2006
A
little History
Case Western Reserve University dates its origin to 1826, and the Medical
School was founded in 1843. The current name was created by the federation
of Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve University in 1967.
Neurology at University Hospitals of Cleveland was a division of the
Department of Medicine until 1980. Dr. Joseph Foley and his colleagues
developed a nationally recognized program, and on his retirement, the
Department of Neurology was formed with Dr. Robert Daroff as its first
chairman. Dr. Daroff resigned from the Chairmanship on January
1, 1994, to become Co-Chief of Staff at University Hospitals and Associate
Dean at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Dennis
Landis was appointed acting chair, and in December 1995 became the second
Department Chairman. He stepped down as Chair in July, 2006.
The Department of Neurology at Case Western Reserve University has grown
to include 42 faculty at three Cleveland sites (University
Hospitals of Cleveland, the Louis B. Stokes Veterans Administration
Medical Center, and Case Western Reserve University's School of Medicine)
and
has achieved a remarkable balance in its clinical care, teaching, and
research activities.
In recent decades, University Hospitals of Cleveland has been the principal
hospital affiliate of Case Western Reserve University, though several
other hospitals have enjoyed important affiliations with the University
as well, including the Louis B. Stokes Veterans Administration Medical
Center
and MetroHealth Medical Center .
Case Western
Reserve University and University Hospitals of Cleveland
are separate corporate entities, but nonetheless enjoy a rich and long
history of close, productive cooperation.
The administrative offices of the Department of Neurology are located
on the fifth floor of Hanna House (mid-right margin, in diagram below):
